ALL ABOUT THERAPY
Therapy, also called counseling or psychotherapy, is the process of working with a therapist to resolve challenging behaviors, beliefs, feelings, relationship issues, and/or somatic responses (physical bodily sensations). Starting your therapy journey can be a big step toward being the best version of yourself and living the healthiest life possible—no matter what issues you may be experiencing. Through therapy, you can change self-destructive habits and behaviors, improve interpersonal relationships, resolve troublesome emotions and more.Â
Although the therapy process looks different for everyone, in all forms of therapy you will create goals and establish ways to meet those goals (objectives). The therapeutic process—how you share your feelings and experiences—is just as important as the specific issues or concerns you share in therapy. Whether in individual or couples/family therapy, your relationship with your therapist is a trustworthy one and focuses not only on the matter of what is discussed, but also the course of action.Â
Overall, you can expect that your therapist will be someone who supports and encourages you, actively listens, demonstrates a constructive and beneficial relationship experience, gives you useful feedback, and respects ethical guidelines. Good quality therapy should be personalized to you and your experiences.

DO YOU OFFER IN-PERSON SERVICES?
Services are offered online-only at this time.
HOW LONG DOES EACH THERAPY SESSION TAKE?
Typically, sessions last anywhere from 45Â to 60 minutes.
WHAT HAPPENS DURING THE FIRST SESSION?
The first session is about gathering history and getting to know one another to determine if you and your therapist are a good fit. The best determination of success in therapy isn’t necessarily the therapist’s skills, but the relationship you have with your therapist. It can make all the difference!
HOW LONG WILL THERAPYÂ TAKE?
There’s no set end date for therapy but there’s also no obligation so you can stop at whatever time feels right for you. Everyone’s journey looks different, and the timeline depends on many factors including what issues are being addressed and the work you do outside of your session. Butterfly Effect Counseling offers both short-term and long-term therapy, and we adapt our methods depending on what you’re looking for.
WILL THERAPY WORK FOR ME?
Like anything else in life, the chances that you’ll be successful are directly associated to your dedication, desire, and efforts. If you find the right therapist, construct clear goals, and stay open to feedback, you’ll have the best shot of getting the help you need. The more committed you are to showing up and making changes to your life, the more likely you will be to produce the change and healing you seek.
IS EVERYTHING I SAY PRIVATE?
